We have recieved a few e-mails offering suggestions and comments and we would like to see even more so keep 'em coming.

New site under development
Kevin and I would have liked to have our new and "professional" site up by now, but decided that we would rather not invest 5% of our startup capital in our website. Instead, we decided that we would attempt to make the new site ourselves. This is what we have so far and I think that it looks pretty good, taking into account that this is our first website.

As you can see, the site is still in the early stages of development and still needs a lot of work. We promise that it will be great when we are finished. We are currently looking for ideas and feedback, so we can make this site as useful and friendly as possible. Please register for our forum and share your ideas.

So Kevin and Mike...what's up with the location?
Let me put it this way - By this point in time, I could have already driven up to New York city, found a guy in some alley selling fake rolex watches, rayban sunglasses, and copies of Duke Nukem Forever. What's my point? Why go to all THAT trouble when I can sit my butt right here in New Orleans and get screwed by someone just as sketchy trying to sell buildings to me instead of watches. Hell, at least the guy in New York would have screwed us over in a more timely fashion.

/end rant angry

We are bitter, but hopeful. We have already begun exploring other options and will do so as long as necessary. In the mean time, please use aol instant messenger to explain to me how angry you are. (Kevinsalterego). It would make me feel better. Also message me if you would like to help me begin construction on a "Floating Center". Essentially, having a building capable of traveling up and down Vets, via the canal, might be far superior to the current options. If you've got other ideas then please post them, no matter how elaborate! wink

Almost, but not quite
The 1818 Vets deal seems to have fallen through for the time being, but that doesn't mean Mike and I aren't working extremely hard on finding a replacement. We're currently dealing with a building close to Clearview shopping center. We aren't sure if this will work out, but know this - We will not open until we have the best possible location for you guys and for the business itself. The delay is bothering us too, but please, keep faith in us and continue to check back.

Many thanks to everyone who has continued to support us,
Kevin

1818 Veterans Blvd
Dibbz may have a home ladies and gents, on the corner of Bonnabel and Vets across the street from Rally's and adjacent to First American bank. We still have to draw up the lease contract, but our offer was accepted so it's just details from here on out and if we come to a final agreement we're all set. Stay tuned for more info...

NOLAFF payback winner!
Card #23 ... your number was chosen out of 82 others thanks to this site so we owe you some cash. Call (504) 296-2210 or e-mail us and we'll arrange to get it to you.

NOLAFF was a blast and we want to thank Chad and the NOLAFF staff for continuing to host such a kick-ass event. Once, again, if you've never been then you need to go. Witnessing Need for Speed Underground and UT2004 on a huge plasma screen was incredible. The variety of PC stylings represented was also amazing...clear cases, cold cathodes, shuttles, alienware, gigantic LCD monitor playing GTA Vice City - it was all there. Check out NOLAFF's website for a full compliment of pictures and a list of prize winners (Geforce 5900 anyone?). We also hope to have a few pics up ourselves in a couple of days so check back.

Also, DON'T FORGET - If you recieved a Dibbz card like this:
then you need to keep it even if you didn't win. We will be holding a pre-grand opening event FREE OF CHARGE the weekend before our grand opening for testing purposes. This card will get you in so don't lose it!
02 May 2004 by Kevin

Dibbz could pay for YOU to play at NOLAFF this Saturday!!
For those of you who aren't familiar with NOLAFF, it's a large scale LAN party held in the Four Points Sheraton in Metaire near Best Buy. More information can be found at the NOLAFF website and media coverage of a previous NOLAFF event by WWL tv can be found here

Mike and I will be at NOLAFF this weekend handing out Dibbz business cards that will serve two purposes:

1. Free voucher, exclusive to NOLAFFians, for the Dibbz Pre-opening beta test weekend event to be held mid-summer.

2. Possibly your free ticket to NOLAFF. Each card given out this weekend will have a unique number. The number of the winning card will be posted on Dibbz.net Sunday, May 2nd. You'll give us a call or an e-mail so we can setup a time to verify the card and then we'll write you a check covering your NOLAFF entrance fee.

Do NOT miss NOLAFF! If you have never experienced a large scale LAN party then you're in for something big. Chad runs an excellent event and will be giving away tons of prizes - just visit the NOLAFF site and its forums to get an idea.

Progress Report
Just an update - The work on the building is nearly complete. If you have driven by recently, you may have noticed that the roof has been replaced and the potholes in the parking lot have been filled. The A/C units are in tip-top shape and the gutters will be worked on this week. There is a brand new dumpster out back that Mike and I are very proud of...it's name will be Jimmy-Bob. Our landlord estimates 3 days until all of his work is completed and this means we can take possession and begin our work this weekend. So for those of you itching for some manual labor, get ready because we may very well need your help soon.

Keep up the activity in the forum! It's good to hear everyone's input, especially on the cafe/food side of the business. Also, if you've heard news on a particular game title or piece of gaming hardware that you think we should know about then post a new thread. If you've got old Atari, Nintendo, or Sega games/systems then let us know as well because we're looking to purchase some of the older stuff too...let the 80's rejoice.

We live in the apartments behind the LAN center so if you're in the area and want to share some ideas over a cup of coffee or something, let us know.

Location! Location! Location!
We've done it! We finally signed a lease! From this day forward, let it be known that Dibbz PC Café is located at:

6850 Veterans Blvd.
Metairie, LA 70003

Our new landlord has already begun renovating the building and has agreed to let us begin doing our own renovations in the next week or two. Kevin and I will be contacting some of you next week to check out the building and help us develop a floor plan. In the meantime, keep in touch and keep giving us your ideas.
23 Jul 2004 by Mike

Here we go...
We will be signing a lease contract with the owner of our new location either late this week or early next week depending on everyone's schedules. After that I will make an official post with our address.

This center is for gamers and we want it to be by gamers as well. This means that now, more than ever, we will need your input! What do you want to eat? Any special smoothies or cafe type drinks that you want to see on our menu? Where should we put the big screen tv's? One of the first things we will do after the lease is signed is to grab a huge group of local gamers to bring to the location. Yes, you can even have your opinion heard on the floorplan!!

Keep checking back..the time has finally come.
20 Jul 2004 by Kevin

Sent us an e-mail about a job? We haven't forgotten you
FYI - I'm still in Montana dealing with rattle snakes, bears, steep cliffs and rocks that tend to maliciously disappear from underneath my feet. If I don't die or something while I'm up here, I fully intend on setting up interviews with all of you as soon as I get back. However, keep in mind that you shouldn't hold out specifically for a job with us if you have other options available. It could be as late as July before work begins...and that depends on the location factor, but as soon as we get a location you can start. Even if you already have a job, this is something you can do at your leisure. Plus, any help anyone feels like giving with the setup of the building will be welcome. This center is a community project and while we can handle it ourselves, having any local enthusiast help would definitely make it a better experience.

As far as the official sales positions go, I've done some research and apparently, the state of Louisiana puts restrictions on minors where working is concerned, but it is possible to have a job if you're as young 14..this isn't to say we will definitely allow anyone to get a sales position, but it's definitely good news if you're looking for part time, holiday or summer work!
25 May 2004 by Kevin

Gratitude and stuff
In the past few weeks, more people have taken notice of our venture than I anticipated and personally contacted me about jobs, tournaments or just to talk about the center. We had not even planned on doing any real work to get our name out until later in the month, but the gaming community, in large part thanks to NOLAFF, has really come around.

I want to thank all of the current members for registering and posting their comments, ideas and suggestions, as well as those gamers who have called or e-mailed me. I hope that some of you "guests" browsing the forums will end up doing the same. This LAN center will most definitely be for gamers, by gamers and your support in this venture is invaluable. Dibbz will be as much your center as it is ours so keep telling us what you want out of it!

P.S. No one has claimed the NOLAFF 14 entry fee payback though I've heard some may know who it is! Alert the owner of card #23 and you may get something out of the deal...

Grand Opening This Saturday!!
Saturday, September the 25th at 12:00am, Dibbz PC Cafe will open for regular business! (We will actually be open Friday as well, but the main attractions are on Saturday)

We will be giving away an eVga Geforce 6800 video card, two 512mb PC-4000 sticks of Crucial's ultra-fast Ballistix memory, a Logitech 510 gaming mouse, and other prizes. If you do not have a raffle ticket and you still want a chance to win, then tickets will be available that morning. Purchase a 3 hour block of game time and you'll get one ticket or purchase an all-day pass for this Friday or Saturday and get 3 tickets and triple your chance to win. You MUST be present on Saturday to win the raffle or at least have someone present to accept it for you!

IF YOU WANT TO GUARENTEE A SPOT THEN COME BY THIS WEEK TO PRE-PURCHASE AN ALL-DAY PASS. On Saturday, we will have 31 PC's ready for gaming, 4 XBoxes, 1 Gamecube, 1 PS2 and a Super Nintendo. All-Day passes and 3 hour blocks will be snatched up pretty quickly so if you don't pre-purchase, then come early on Saturday to reserve your spot.

On-the-fly tournaments in UT2K4, CS:Source, and Battlefield Vietnam will round out the PC end of things. The XBox will see tournaments including HALO (definitely) and whichever games the XBox players really want at the time. Super Smash Brothers Melee will also make a tournament debut at Dibbz. These tournamnets will be further customized or adjusted on Saturday depending on who shows up and who wants to play what...the entrance into these is free with the purchase of gaming time and the prizes will include free gaming time, Dibbz hats, and possibly some hardware depending on the turn-out. This day is meant to be fun so the tournaments are not high stakes..however, we will be announcing our first major tournament dates throughout the Grand Opening Day!

If you've got any questions, please call the store at 885-1274 or shoot us an e-mail. TELL EVERYONE! tongue

FYI - (The espresso/coffee/lunch aspect will officially open the following weekend.)

Gaming This Saturday!!
5$ for 5 hours of gaming from 10:00am to midnight.

Ivan set us back a good bit so we didn't get to run through the SmartLaunch POS system as much as we would have liked. And because we're learning it, we're only charging a buck an hour instead of the full price.

This is not the official Grand Opening so you STILL have an opportunity to enter the raffle for the GeForce 6800 which will be held the 25th. The hurricane set us back a week...but things could have been worse so we aren't complaining.

(To those who pre-purchased all-day passes. You can still choose to use them this Saturday, but because we're already discounting the price so dramatically, it would be a better value to wait until the 25th.)

On a final note - Our thoughts are with those on the gulf coast who lost so much to Ivan. New Orleans dodged a bullet, but others weren't so lucky.

Beta Day - Big Success thanks to small amounts of sleep!
Beta Day was FREAKING AWESOME.

In other news, not many people brought Beta cards though a few people bought All-Day passes. This means that only a small number of people are entered for the GeForce 6800 raffle. If you didn't get to Beta day and you still want a chance to win that video card then make sure to come to our Grand Opening on Saturday the 25th (*EDIT! The date has been changed due to the prep for the hurricane...we're not taking any chances.)The purchase of an All-Day pass gets you 3 chances to win so come stop by and grab your all-day pass this week or even the morning of the 18th.

Thanks again to all those who helped make Beta Day a success.
12 Sep 2004 by Kevin

Just to Clarify...
Tomorrow is a Beta Day and we are not fully open. The tournament is the big event and we will be offering snacks and drinks (including Bawls), but our coffee/espresso area will not be ready until we open next week.

I've heard that some people believe we are actually open as of tomorrow and that is unfortunately not true. Anyone can come to Beta Day to help us test out the PC's and XBoxes, but it's just for that - testing purposes. Tomorrow is in no way a final representation of what Dibbz is! Doesn't mean it won't be hella fun though...

Send us an e-mail or post on the forum if you've got last minute questions.

Madden tournament at Dibbz on Saturday the 11th!!
Due to some weird circumstances, the NOLAFF Madden 2005 tournament will be held at Dibbz beginning at 11:00am on Saturday the 11th!! This is 4 hours before the Beta Day special starts so you might as well come to check out the Madden smackdowns likely to occur and then stay for the Beta. It's only 20 bucks to enter and a pair of Saints Season tickets are on the line! - Here are the RULES.

Also, some people have expressed fears that our building will somehow melt due to an electrical fire or something, but I think we'll be ok. XBoxes and TV's will be good to go...just bring your skillz and let us worry about the details!

*Heads up* I'll have updated pics of the building with our new countertops installed. You will also see 30 something Viewsonic boxes...they rock. We rock. By the way, Crucial memory rocks. Expect some hefty Gigabytage from Crucial to be given out by yours truly...and soon.

Beta Day on Saturday Sept. 11th!!
Help us test out Dibbz PC cafe (version 1.0) on Saturday the 11th from 3:00pm until 10:00pm or later! If you've recieved a Beta Day business card then you can bring it in on the 11th to recieve a FREE raffle ticket that enters you to win a brand-spanking-new Nvidia Geforce 6800.

(Edit - The eVGA card rocks better than the other AND it comes with Far Cry so we are giving the eVGA 6800 away instead of the XFX.)

Mike and I gave out only a handful of these business cards during Nolaff 16 so your chances for actually winning are quite high. Too high. I'm jealous. On a NOLAFF note, make sure to attend their Madden 2005 tournament which is being held at CompUSA!

What if you weren't at NOLAFF 16 to get a card? Email me at Kevin@Dibbz.net and I'll tell you how you can get one.

FYI - Assuming the beta test is successful then our Grand Opening will be on September 18th

The Real Work has Begun!
We have the keys. Mike, Splash, and I ripped down the carpet in the cafe area today and will begin priming the outside of the building either later this afternoon or tomorrow morning. The roof is done, the parking lot lines have been redrawn, the grass has been cut and an Opening Soon sign is in place!

We'll be posting play-by-play news as the work continues. Expect an opening date the first or second weekend of September. This is not concrete because much depends on how long it takes the counter-tops and the signs to come in, but we will be opening as soon as we possibly can.
